Juggling school, work, relationships, and personal time can be overwhelming as a college student. Burnout has become a normalized part of being a college student, but just because it’s common doesn’t mean it’s healthy. The UNO Health Center’s psychiatry team is here to support your mental health.
What is burnout?
Burnout isn’t just feeling stressed or tired. It’s a prolonged state of emotional exhaustion, detachment and reduced performance. You might feel numb, foggy or disconnected “from what inspired you to come to UNO” in the first place. Left unaddressed, burnout can impact your academics and relationships.
Burnout can show up in different ways. Some common signs include:
- Feeling tired or drained, no matter how much you sleep
- Irritability or feeling emotionally distant
- Loss of motivation or enthusiasm
- Trouble concentrating or making decisions
- Feeling like you're just going through the motions
Noticing these signs isn’t a weakness. It means you’re paying attention and ready to take steps to protect your well-being.
Early support matters
Seeking help early can prevent deeper mental health struggles and protect your academic and personal success. Burnout doesn’t just fade with time; it requires intentional care.
The UNO Health Center offers psychiatric services designed specifically for students. Our team provides:
- Medication management
- Referrals to therapy and other mental health resources
- Integrated care that connects your mental and physical health
We work closely with UNO Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) in 101 H&K. Through CAPS, enrolled students can seek counseling and explore ways to beat burnout.
