The following requirements must be met before applying for聽admission to educator preparation. Admission is a two-step process detailed below.聽
Educator Preparation Program Requirements
Step 1 -
If you are looking to apply to the para-to-educator pathway, please email unocoeadvising@unomaha.edu for application information.
- Apply to the university
- Complete the following course with a grade of C- or higher**: English Composition I (ENGL 1140/1150) or proficiency.
- The following courses may be in progress at the time of application, or completed ahead of time with a grade of C- or higher**: English Composition II (ENGL 1160/2160) or proficiency, Communication Studies (CMST 1110 Public Speaking or CMST 2120 Debate), MATH 1120, MATH 1130, MATH 1140, MATH 1300, or math proficiency.
- The following courses may be in progress at the time of application*, or completed ahead of time (within the past ten years) with a grade of C or higher: TED 2100 Educational Foundations or TED 2250 Intro to Early Childhood Education (for Early Childhood Inclusive endorsement).
- GPA Requirements (UNO Students): Currently enrolled UNO students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
- GPA Requirements (Transfer Students)Transfer students with 12 or more credit hours in the Nebraska System (UNL, UNK, UNO) must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 for all attempted coursework taken in the NU System.
- Transfer students with credit hours from institutions other than the NU System must have a minimum combined cumulative GPA of 2.5 for all attempted coursework.
- Step 1 Deadlines
- Fall Semester - Jan. 1, Feb. 1, March 1, April 1, May 1, June 1, Aug. 1
- Spring Semester - Sept. 1, Oct. 1, Nov. 1, Dec. 1
**If you have completed an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science from an accredited institution, please talk with an academic advisor if you have not completed one or more of these courses (ENGL 1150, ENGL 1160, CMST 1110/ 2120, or quantitative literacy). If an endorsement requires one or more of these courses as a pre-requisite, you must satisfy the pre-requisite by taking the course(s).
Step 2 - Formal Admission to Program
- No application is required for formal admission. Students will be formally admitted when the criteria is met.
- GPA of 2.75 or higher:
- Cumulative University of Nebraska System GPA of 2.75 or higher (3.0 for social science candidates)
- Transfer students with credit hours from institutions other than the NU System must have a minimum combined cumulative GPA of 2.75 for all attempted coursework.
- Completion of the following field experience courses with a C or higher:
- Elementary Education and Early Childhood Inclusive (ECI)
- TED 2300 (not required for ECI)
- TED 2400 or TED 2410/2420
- Secondary Education
- TED 2380
- TED 2400
- Music Education
- MUS 3600
- Elementary Education and Early Childhood Inclusive (ECI)
- Students who do not pass the classes listed above with a grade of C or higher will not be permitted to continue in the Educator Preparation Program course sequence until these requirements are met.
Background Check
All students accepted into the Educator Preparation Program are required to do a background check with the vendor selected by UNO. The background check instructions are provided to the students when they are accepted into the program.
