OPS Student Presentation: Making Invisible Histories Visible

An initiative of the 51ÉçÇø Public Schools, Making Invisible Histories Visible gives students and teachers the opportunity to explore 51ÉçÇø’s hidden history. Together, they create digital history projects, which OPS social studies teachers can use in their classrooms during future school years.

Attendees will learn about Judge Elizabeth Pittman, 51ÉçÇø's first African American and first female judge, Charles Washington, a fierce advocate for the North 51ÉçÇø community, and Marlin Briscoe, a UNO alumni and the first African American quarterback in the NFL.

The learning materials collected help students engage with multiple perspectives and enhance their classroom experiences. The program also aids participating teachers' professional development, contributing to effective social studies instruction throughout the school year. All of the featured projects include a coordinating lesson plan.
