This past summer, Isabella was a summer undergraduate researcher for the Study of Institutional and Structural Disparities in Healthcare and Academies of Higher Education at UNMC. Over the course of 10 weeks, she worked on two projects: an individual retrospective study on the ethical implications of financial/insurance-related kidney transplant referral denials at UNMC, and a group project about structural disparities in academies of higher education. Isabella's nephrology-related research was accepted for presentation at the Student National Medical Association's (SNMA) Region II Medical Education Conference at the University of Illinois in October of 2025. During her most recent internship, Isabella also completed 20 shadowing hours in the Department of Surgery, specifically in kidney transplant cases. Currently, Isabella volunteers in the Heart/Vascular and Pediatric Units at UNMC, as well as in Anatomic Pathology and the Emergency Department. In 2024, she interned at the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID), conducting immunodiagnostic research for U.S. Army partners at the Fort Detrick military base in Frederick, MD. She was also a summer research intern at Creighton University, specializing in preventing aminoglycosidic hearing loss. At UNO, Isabella is a member of the Molecular and Biomedical Biology Journal Club, a board member of the Women and Gender Equity Center, student senator of the College of Arts and Sciences, the Cultural Awareness Chair of Black Excellence, and a UHOP scholar. Isabella is on the pre-medical track withinterests in biomedical sciences, particularly in medicine and systematic inequalities research.
