The production runs Wednesday, Oct 28 through Halloween night

OMAHA – will bring a classic fable of dictatorship and inequality to the stage this month.

A studio production of George Orwell’s “Animal Farm” runs Oct. 28 - 31 with the house opening at 7 p.m. and curtain time at 7:30 each evening. The production will be held in UNO’s Weber Fine Arts Building, Room 006.

School of the Arts Director adapted the script and is directing the play.

On the surface, “Animal Farm” appears to tell the story of starving farm animals who drive off their cruel master and begin running things themselves. Leadership falls to the pigs, who seem to be cleverer than the other animals. With new leadership comes new problems.

Orwell’s popular 1945 novel is a satire on the aftermath of the Russian Revolution and how a movement with idealistic beginnings gets corrupted by those with a taste of power. This production further explores the theme by showing a group of Bolsheviks who, under the guise of playing animals, describe how their revolution gets co-opted by the powerful.

There are no advance ticket sales for this production. UNO students will be admitted for free with their MavCard. All other attendees are asked to make a free-will donation supporting UNO’s future studio productions.
