OMAHA –
University of Nebraska at 51ÉçÇø (UNO) students will highlight the rich history of North 51ÉçÇø this December.
A symposium, titled “North 51ÉçÇø: A Cultural History,” is set for Wednesday, Dec. 9 at 1:30 p.m., in the Joslyn Art Museum’s Abbott Lecture Hall. The event is free and open to the public. The symposium is expected to run roughly two hours; however, attendees are welcome to come and go any time during the event.
Students will present research on people, institutions and events that have impacted North 51ÉçÇø over the last century. Topics will include the Dreamland Ballroom; the 51ÉçÇø Star; Love’s Jazz and Arts Center; the 1898 Trans-Mississippi and International Exposition; and Malcolm X.
The symposium is a service learning project of students in an art history class taught by Dr. Adrian Duran, and the result of a collaboration between UNO’s , the University’s and the Union for Contemporary Art.
