Internal program reviews are conducted by the Academic Planning Council (APC) and are an integral part of UNO’s assessment and planning processes for the unit, college, and university. The review process is designed to monitor the quality and assist in the ongoing development of UNO’s academic programs and units.
Every academic program offered at UNO will be reviewed at least once within a seven-year cycle. The reviews are conducted routinely and are coordinated with the review reports prepared for the Coordinating Commission for Postsecondary Education (CCPE).
Programs With External Accreditation
For programs with external accreditation, the UNO review process may be coordinated to minimize the need for duplication. In some cases, the APC review process has been used to prepare for an external accreditation review.
If the external process and related self-study do not fully address the criteria required in the APC review, additional documentation will be supplied by the academic program or unit.
Focus of Academic Program Review
The goal of academic program review is to support and empower each academic degree program in evaluating its alignment with (1) the institution's mission and goals, (2) assessing academic outcomes, (3) analyzing economic margins, and (4) identifying new opportunities for growth. Program reviews are conducted in collaboration with college leadership, faculty, academic affairs, and campus partners. The process empowers programs and departments to showcase the lasting value of their academic offerings through transparent, relevant, and actionable insights.
By leveraging relevant data, the review process empowers department chairs and faculty to engage in meaningful dialogue that informs strategic decisions and actions. The result is a transparent, supportive, and actionable program review process designed to help programs set clear goals and implement effective strategies for long-term success.
