Understanding Limited Submissions

Some funding agencies restrict the number of proposals an institution may submit to a particular funding program. These opportunities are referred to as limited submissions. Some programs are limited by the institution (i.e., X proposals allowed for the entire university), some by campus, and some by school.

If a university submits more than the allowable number of proposals to a limited submission opportunity, all of its proposals will likely be disqualified.

That is why it is imperative to follow the internal application/peer review process and secure proper authorization from the university (and, in certain cases, your campus, school, or department as well).

Limited Submission Process

Submitting and selection applications for limited submissions a three step process:

1. Notification: notify your Grants Coordinator indicating your interest in submitting an application to the limited programs as soon you know you are interested.
   
   
2. Internal Pre-Proposal Submission: If there is more than one interested applicant than the sponsor's limit allows, ORCA will conduct an internal competition through NuRamp to select the UNO application(s) that will be recommended to move forward for submission.
   • In this case, the internal competition will be open to the UNO community, and those wanting to be considered must complete the NuRamp application and submit it on or before the internal pre-proposal deadline.
     
     
3. Selection: All applicants will be notified of their application status at least four weeks in advance of the sponsor's application deadline. If selected, you will work with your Grants Coordinator to prepare and submit your full proposal application for funding before the sponsor deadline.
